Where Outlook store it data file?

• The normal folder Microsoft Outlook store its emails, contacts, calender,etc is:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

How to change Outlook's data file location?

For Outlook2007

• Assumes:

1. Outlook2007
2. Original data file is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

1. New Outlook data file location is "d:\hdata\outlook\outlook_h.pst"

The procedure is:

• First create a new outlook data file at the new location:

• go 工具(T) -> Account setup -> data file -> Add New

File location: D:\hdata\Outlook\Outlook_h.pst

File type: 個人資料夾(Outlook_h)

• One click on the newly created data file "Outlook_h.pst" -> set it as "default" -> close

• exit Outlook

-> kill "outlook" (using Windows Task Manager) if necessary

-> rename the newly created blank data file outlook_h.pst to outlook_h__.pst

• Copy the original data file "outlook_h.pst to the new location d:\hdata\outlook\
• Execute Outlook -> That's it!

For Outlook2003

• assumes:

1. Outlook 2003
2. Original data file is: "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst"
3. New Outlook data file location is "d:\hdata\outlook\outlook_h.pst"

The procedure is:

• First create a new outlook data file at the new location:

• go 工具(T) -> "電子郵件帳號"

-> "檢視 或變更 現有的電子郵件帳號(V)" -> "下一步(N)"

-> click "新的Outlook資料檔(O)"

-> in "檔案(F)" enter "d:\hdata\outlook\outlook_h.pst"

-> in "名稱(N)" enter "Personal_FolderH" -> click "確認"

-> in "傳送新的電子郵件致下例位置(N)" select "Personal_FolderH" -> click "完成"

-> exit and re-run Outlook

-> You should find "Personal_FolderH" becomes the first and default Personal Folder

-> Right click the original Personal Folder "個人資料夾"

-> select "關閉個人資料夾(c)"

-> exit Outlook

• Copy the original data file "outlook.pst to the new location d:\hdata\outlook\

-> rename the blank data file outlook_h.pst to outlook_h__.pst

-> rename the real data file outlook.pst to outlook_h.pst

• Execute Outlook and you will find "Personal_FolderH" change back to "個人資料夾" -> That's it!
